With popularity growing for Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) we were approached by local company HP Freightways to have a look at a new lorry park that was being constructed. We decided to offer our RCC mix at a 250mm depth with no steel reinforcing added, for cost saving purposes, with a power floated finish and we started by paving the final 100mm of type 1 stone which gives a better starting point to lay down the mixture on.

The ground of the yard was drastically lower than the rest of the site, so we also offered a 3D model design of the whole project, working closely with the client's designer and our engineers to ensure all falls and slopes would be automatically paved tying back into the existing yard. The 3D paving helped the paver to achieve peaks between new drainage and add slopes that would have been near impossible to pave conventionally to the tolerance needed and assured the ground was all levelled correctly.

The total area paved was 8,066m2 and involved 4,840 tonnes of RCC mixture. The mixture is transported in our trucks and fed into our surfacer which lays the concrete at the desired depth. This method differs from other re-surfacing solutions, such as tarmac, which is usually transported in concrete mixers and can be more time-consuming.
