Project Description

Ashcourt were tasked with re-surfacing the driveway and yard at Meltonby Farm due to the uneven ground which mainly consisted of mud and rubble. Listening to what the client asked for they required a quick solution to have a new roadway into the premises leading to a carpark and wagon parking area in front of the barns. The most appropriate surfacing solution we recommended was Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) which is a more cost-effective alternative to tarmac and has many benefits in comparison. As the client advised for the most cost saving solution, we worked closely with them so they could prepare the ground themselves to a suitable formation level for 150mm of RCC concrete to be paved straight onto.

With only one way into and out of the premises we designed a RCC concrete with a PTR rubber tyred roller finish that would allow entry after a couple of days for light vehicles and for heavier traffic only two more days after this, so animal feeds continued to be delivered causing no unnecessary delays for the client and live stocks.

This solution has been particularly popular in the agricultural and residential industry as it offers a more attractive option that requires minimal maintenance. For this project, we used 375 tonnes of concrete over a total area of 1,039m2 and the whole project was completed in 1 day with large cost savings on reinforced meshing, concrete shuttering and setting out works which minimised business delays and disruptions.
