Project Description
Since being closed down in 2016, the old aviary located in West Hull at Pickering Park was neglected and left to ruin following a rat infestation, where the building soon saw rapid deterioration. With our expert Construction team tasked with the refurb and design of the building, the aviary has now been developed into a ‘World Class’ zoo facility.
The project involved full design and project build to refurbish and extend the existing run-down facility that would be used for a multi animal zoo.
Comprised of a traditional masonry brick-clad extension, the building is constructed of a reinforced concrete raft foundation with a timber roof to provide veterinary rooms and teaching areas. The existing aviary had a full refurbish to suit modern zoo standards with an upgrade to the animal pen.
Other works we achieved were a drainage infrastructure and full mechanical fit out utilising air source pumps and underfloor heating. Externally, we worked on the new paving, a car park and full fencing to encapsulate the zoo.
We were able to work seamlessly, with the end client to accommodate and support any changes they required, as the initial concept evolved and extended throughout the works. The client made use of our in-house divisions, as we provided our services for concrete, aggregates, waste management and M&E.
The project build period was 23 weeks with a total project cost of £520k.
