Project Description

Working close with the NHS, we were asked to construct and fit a Link Bridge between the new Intensive Care Unit and the Tower Block departments of the main hospital at Hull Royal Infirmary.

Planning 5 weeks in advance for service identifications and diversions the works to the Link Bridge commmenced promptly. The preliminary foundation works were both technically and operationally difficult. Our site manager, civils team and sub-contractor supply chain successfully installed 18 of the 450mm diameter piles, over 21 metres into the ground, whilst ensuring the blue light emergency ambulance route was re-open at the end of each day’s shift.

The steel and prefabricated units for the link bridge were stored off site and delivered ready for the crane to start the first phase of the steel frame. Once the steel beams were erected, the two cabins were lifted into place and secured.

Following on from the cabin installation, the internal works commenced imminently with the electrical works and fire doors fitted, allowing the painting and flooring to be finished. Whilst this was progressing, we also had our team working on the final touches to the groundworks with tarmacking and bollards installed.
