Project Description

Proud to be part of an amazing local project, Ashcourt Group were the key concrete supplier for Spencer Group and Slipform Engineering’s new cement silo built at Hull’s William Wright Dock on behalf of Damac Group. The impressive silo reaches heights of 171ft and is in response to the increase in construction demand the UK has recently experienced, resulting in the need for a larger cement handling capacity.

The design of the structure is a specialist technique by Slipform Engineering that requires the concrete to be transferred into a continuously moving form which is gradually built upwards. In order to ensure the correct results were achieved we supplied a constant flow of our C40/50 concrete mix for eight consecutive days, operating day and night from our state-of-the-art Liebherr concrete production facility in Hull.

Working closely with the client, the mix was constantly reviewed and amended to suit changing weather conditions and temperatures. Initially, we supplied 224m3 for the base then a further 691m3 for the main body of the silo, with multiple Ashcourt concrete mixers onsite at all times.

The new landmark has a capacity of 6,000m3 for storing imported cement powder where it will be handled by Damac Group who distribute it to construction projects throughout the UK.
