We're pleased to confirm the arrival of three brand new loading shovels at Bishop Middleham Quarry, representing a further investment in the operational capability of our Durham & Tees Valley Region. The new delivery comprises two Volvo L220 loading shovels and one Volvo L180, all of which have been introduced directly into the quarry’s daily operations. The two L220 machines are now supporting the loading of wagons and the management of stockpiles across the site, while the L180 has been allocated to the lime area, where it is loading our A45 dumpers and supporting material movement within this key part of the operation. This investment has been driven by the continued level of activity at Bishop Middleham Quarry and the requirement to maintain high standards of efficiency, reliability and output across the site. As demand across the region continues to be supported by the quarry’s production and distribution capabilities, it is essential that the plant and machinery within the operation remain aligned with both current requirements and future growth. The addition of these machines will support improved loading times, greater operational efficiency and enhanced fuel performance, all of which contribute to a more productive and cost-effective quarrying operation. Faster wagon turnaround times are particularly important in a busy quarry environment, helping to improve site flow, reduce waiting times and ensure materials can be moved efficiently from production and stockpile areas through to customer delivery. The deployment of the two L220 loading shovels within the main stockpile and wagon loading areas will provide the site team with increased capacity and flexibility, ensuring that customer demand can be met consistently throughout the working day. The L180’s role within the lime area also provides dedicated support to an important area of the quarry, improving the efficiency of internal haulage and helping to maintain continuity across associated operations. This latest investment demonstrates our continued commitment to strengthening the infrastructure, equipment and resources across our regional operations. By introducing modern, high-performance plant, we are ensuring that Bishop Middleham Quarry remains well equipped to deliver reliable output, maintain product availability and support the wider requirements of our customers across Durham, Tees Valley and surrounding areas. Bishop Middleham Quarry continues to play an important role within our regional quarry network, supplying materials for a broad range of construction, infrastructure, commercial and agricultural projects. Its strategic position within the Durham & Tees Valley Region allows us to support customers with efficient material supply, while also contributing to the wider performance and resilience of the Ashcourt Group’s aggregates division. The arrival of the new loading shovels is another positive step in the ongoing development of our quarry operations. It reinforces our focus on investing in the right equipment, improving site productivity and ensuring our teams have the resources required to operate safely, efficiently and effectively. As we continue to develop our regional presence and strengthen our operational capacity, investments such as this remain key to supporting long-term performance, customer service and sustainable growth across the business.
