Ashcourt Group Commissions New EWT Wind Turbine at Hull Depot

Ashcourt Group has reached another significant milestone in its sustainability programme following the successful commissioning of a new EWT wind turbine at its Hull depot. The 1MVA turbine is now fully operational and generating renewable electricity directly on site, supporting a significant part of the depot’s day-to-day energy requirements. The investment forms part of Ashcourt Group’s wider commitment to reducing the environmental impact of its operations while continuing to invest in the infrastructure needed to support the long-term growth of the business. Renewable electricity generated by the turbine is being used across several key operations at the Hull site, including the company’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure, concrete production facility, aggregate wash plant and offices.

The Hull depot is a major operational hub for Ashcourt Group, bringing together construction materials, waste management, recycling and logistics activities. Introducing on-site renewable generation allows the Group to reduce its reliance on grid-supplied electricity while making greater use of energy generated directly at the depot. One of the key uses for the electricity is the charging of Ashcourt Group’s electric HGVs, supporting the company’s continued investment in lower-carbon transport solutions. By combining electric vehicles with renewable energy generation, Ashcourt is able to take a more joined-up approach to reducing emissions across its transport and material movements.

The turbine is also helping to power Ashcourt Group’s aggregate wash plant, which plays an important role in the recovery and processing of construction materials. Material brought into the site can be washed, processed and recovered to produce usable recycled aggregate products, helping to reduce the amount of suitable material being sent to landfill. Using renewable electricity to support these operations further strengthens the connection between material recovery, resource efficiency and the Group’s wider sustainability objectives. Electricity generated by the turbine is also being utilised within Ashcourt’s concrete production operations and office facilities, extending the benefits of the investment across the wider depot.

The commissioning of the EWT turbine represents another step in Ashcourt Group’s long-term approach to sustainability and operational efficiency. Rather than viewing individual initiatives in isolation, the Group continues to invest across its fleet, facilities, quarries, recycling operations and production sites to build a more efficient and resilient business. The turbine complements existing investment in electric commercial vehicles, modern plant and equipment, material recovery facilities and recycled construction products, while providing the infrastructure required to support further developments in the future.

Ashcourt Group Sustainability Manager, Chantal, has been closely involved throughout the installation and commissioning process and discusses the project, its role within the Hull operation and the Group’s wider sustainability ambitions in Ashcourt’s latest video. With the turbine now fully commissioned and supplying renewable electricity to key areas of the depot, Ashcourt Group will continue to explore opportunities to improve energy efficiency, increase the use of renewable power and reduce the carbon impact of its operations.
