ASHCOURT GROUP HIGHLIGHTS SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES WHEN HOSTING SUSTAINABILITY AND SUPPLY LUNCH

Ashcourt Group recently brought together customers and industry contacts for a sustainability event, providing an opportunity to discuss the measures being taken across our operations to reduce carbon emissions and support more sustainable construction. With a significant proportion of a construction project's carbon footprint often associated with purchased materials and transport, the event focused on how improvements across our own operations can contribute to reducing emissions throughout the wider supply chain.

A key area of discussion was the role of renewable energy in our operations, including our Foster Street site in Hull, which is powered by our own wind turbine. This supplies electricity to the wash plant, concrete plant, offices and electric vehicle charging points, supporting our efforts to reduce reliance on external energy sources. We also highlighted the ongoing electrification of our fleet, which includes more than 50 electric cars and vans, alongside electric HGVs and skip loaders. These investments form part of our wider approach to reducing emissions across both our operational activities and the transport of materials.

The event also explored how our infrastructure and material recovery processes contribute to more sustainable construction. Our strategically located wash plants recover materials from inert waste, processing them into usable sands and aggregates that can be returned to the supply chain. Within our concrete operations, the use of ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) as a partial replacement for Portland cement also provides opportunities to reduce the embodied carbon of our concrete mixes. Together, these initiatives demonstrate how improvements in material recovery, production and product specification can support more efficient use of resources and lower-carbon construction.

Looking ahead, we shared our plans to build on the progress already made, including opportunities to expand our renewable energy infrastructure and move more materials between sites by rail. These developments reflect our continued focus on identifying practical ways to reduce emissions across our operations, while maintaining the reliable supply of materials and services our customers depend on.

Importantly, the event also provided an opportunity to discuss what these measures mean for our customers. By understanding the environmental benefits associated with the materials we supply and the services we deliver, customers can make more informed decisions and access relevant data to support their own carbon reporting and that of their clients. As expectations around sustainability and environmental reporting continue to develop across the construction industry, providing clear and useful information is an increasingly important part of the support we offer.

Ashcourt Group remains committed to improving the sustainability of our operations and working closely with customers to support their environmental objectives. Events such as this provide a valuable opportunity to share progress, discuss future developments and explore how collaboration across the supply chain can contribute to a more sustainable construction industry.
